Share your Strava activity on Instagram — the complete guide
Strava logs the activity perfectly. Then the social-sharing question hits: how do I get this onto Instagram without it looking like a screenshot? Here are all three real options, side by side.
Option 1 — Strava's native Instagram share
- Open the activity in Strava → tap the Share icon → pick Instagram Stories.
- Strava generates a stat sticker and hands it to Instagram with your background photo (or a black background).
- Limitations: only Story format. The stat layout is fixed. Only the activities Strava natively understands get a useful sticker — a padel session, HYROX or strength workout shows up as a generic 'Workout'.
Option 2 — Screenshot + remove.bg + Canva
- Screenshot your Strava activity. Crop to the stats you want.
- Upload to remove.bg to get a transparent PNG of the screenshot.
- Open Canva → Instagram Post or Story → upload your photo + the transparent stats → arrange → export → upload to Instagram.
- Time: 8–12 minutes per post. Quality: depends entirely on your Canva skills. Reusable: no, every post starts from scratch.
Option 3 — UPPOST (one screen, every format)
- Pick your sport (running, cycling, padel, HYROX, diving, skydive, strength, and more).
- Paste the stats that matter — pace, distance, score, depth, freefall, WOD result.
- Drop in your photo. The stats render directly on top — no background to remove, because there isn't one to start with.
- Export to 4:5 (IG feed), 9:16 (IG / TikTok Story), 1:1 (square), or a transparent PNG sticker.
- Time: ~60 seconds. Quality: consistent every post. Reusable: same template every time.
Which one should you pick
- Vanilla run or ride and you only post Stories → Strava's native share is fine.
- You want an Instagram feed post, a TikTok cover, or a sticker on your own video → you need either Canva or UPPOST.
- Your sport isn't a run or a ride (padel, HYROX, diving, strength, MMA, climbing, basketball, dance, golf, etc.) → UPPOST is the only option that asks for sport-specific stats.
- You post more than once a week → the time saving from a one-screen tool compounds fast.
What 'share-worthy' actually looks like in the feed
On Instagram the visual stops the scroll, not the numbers. A photo with the right two or three stats burned on top of it reads at a glance — pace + distance on a run, score + match type on a padel game, depth + dive site on a dive, WOD + time on a CrossFit session. UPPOST is built around that one rule.
Posting back to Strava too?
UPPOST also generates a title and caption you can paste into the Strava activity description. One workout, one visual, both feeds taken care of.
FAQ
Can I share a Strava activity directly to Instagram?
Yes — Strava has a native share to Instagram Stories. It works for runs, rides and other activities Strava natively understands, and only for the Story format. For feed posts or non-endurance sports you need a separate tool.
How do I get the Strava overlay on my own photo?
Either the screenshot + remove.bg + Canva route (manual, ~10 minutes), or a dedicated tool like UPPOST which renders the overlay directly on your photo and skips the background-removal step entirely.
Why does my padel / HYROX / dive show up as 'Workout' when I share?
Strava's native overlay only fills in stats for the activity types it understands. Everything else collapses to a generic Workout. UPPOST asks for the sport-specific fields (score, WOD, depth, etc.) and renders them on the visual.
Can I post the same recap to Instagram, TikTok and Strava?
Yes. UPPOST exports 4:5 (Strava + IG feed), 9:16 (IG / TikTok Stories), 1:1 (square), and a transparent PNG sticker from the same recap. Pick the format at export time.
Is UPPOST affiliated with Strava?
No. UPPOST is an independent tool. It doesn't replace Strava, doesn't post automatically, and isn't an official integration.
