Post Strava cycling on Instagram — the cyclist's guide

Cycling posts on Instagram live or die on the photo. The stats just give it context.

What to overlay on a ride

  • Distance + elevation gain — the two stats every other cyclist reads first.
  • Average speed for road, average power if you train with a meter.
  • Ride type if it adds context (gravel, group, commute, race).
  • Three stats max. Beyond that, the photo loses.

Ride photo > Strava map

A photo of the bike against the view, the café stop, or the peak you climbed beats a flat Strava map every time on Instagram. Save the map for posts where the route itself is the story (an FKT, a brevet, a new gravel loop).

Format guide

  • 4:5 feed post — race or epic ride recap.
  • 9:16 Story — daily ride share.
  • Transparent PNG — overlay your numbers on a Reel of the descent.

E-bike, gravel, MTB

  • Gravel and MTB photos almost always win on Instagram. Lean into the photo, keep the overlay minimal.
  • E-MTB — UPPOST has a dedicated template that asks for assist mode and battery used, on top of distance and elevation.
  • Downhill MTB — runs, total descent, top speed.

FAQ

Should I show my power numbers?

Only if your audience cares. For most personal feeds: distance + elevation outperforms power numbers in engagement.

Does UPPOST work for indoor / Zwift rides?

Yes — pick the cycling template and the same flow works for indoor sessions. Swap the photo for a turbo / Zwift screenshot or a kit shot.
